Steering – Safety analyses of rack cross electric power steering (RC-EPS)

Description

The results of safety analyses performed during the development of an electromechanical steering system decisively influenced its further development process. Safety requirements have to be established and the architecture needs to be reviewed. Thus the risk originating from the system will be limited to an approved level.

etamax supports the safety certification by creating documents in the safety process. Other work packages address tasks like the verification of parts during development or the validation of the steering system after its integration into the target vehicle.

Special Feature

Safety analyses have shown among other things that the steering functions have to be monitored to be able to detect random failures of non-redundant designed hardware.

Techniques and tools such as embedded C, DOORS, CM or CS Synergy are used for this task.

Result

The developed steering is used in the VW Tiguan and other models.
